About Me

Dr. Natalie Rubin obtained her B.A. from McGill University in 1988. She worked in research in women's issues prior to earning a scholarship to the University of Hartford (APA accredited) where she earned her Masters and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 1995.Throughout her training, she worked extensively in both in-patient and out-patient settings for adults. Her early career involved working on an in-patient forensic unit in Nova Scotia conducting both psychodiagnostic and “Competency” assessments and psychotherapy for adult individuals, groups and families. While there, she held an adjunct faculty appointment at Dalhousie University and supervised psychology interns at the Nova Scotia Hospital. She later moved to New York working with chronically mentally ill adults, before starting up a general private practice seeing a wide range of problems in late adolescents and adults including mood and anxiety disorders, life transitions, adjustment and self-esteem issues, sexual abuse, eating disorders, relationship and parenting issues, stress and anger management and trauma. In addition to private practice she served as consultant to the Suffolk County Police Department in New York conducting “Fitness for Duty” psychological assessments. Over the years Dr. Rubin has developed a special interest in siblings of chronically disabled individuals, and practices from a holistic and systems-oriented approach, incorporating both cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic modalities. Her therapeutic approach can be described as eclectic as she believes strongly in tailoring the psychotherapeutic approach to the individual client’s needs.

Dr. Rubin has been in practice since 1995 and holds a license to practice as a psychologist in Nova Scotia, New York State and in Ontario under the Ontario College of Psychologists. She is a member of the Canadian Psychological Association, Ontario Psychological Association and the Ottawa Academy, where she has served as board member for many years and served as president for 3 years. She has also served as expert witness for the Superior Court of Ontario.
